Tracing Obscure Pumps

& Finding a Replacement

-

A major activity of the PDA and its members is to help clients identify and trace obscure pumps and to then advise on sources of pumps and spares or alternative makes of pump.

Your first call should be to your local PDA member, they will be able to advise and help you on the vast majority of occasions.  Go to our "Members" page and click on the hotspot nearest to your location.  Our members may not be able to offer an exact replacement but will advise you and supply a suitable alternative.

Before raising a query please obtain as much information about the pump as possible. In particular: model name, maker or importer, application, suspected country of origin, motor power.  Many pumps have been re-labelled with the importers name, often these are the most difficult to trace, especially when the importer has ceased trading.  Air operated diaphragm pumps are very difficult to trace, there appears to be many thousands of makes; they are an example of re-labelling gone mad.  Pumps frequently have their label removed when they are incorporated into a product, in such a case the first contact should be with the "original product manufacturer", if they cannot help please ask our members.

If a member cannot help, you may need to conduct a Internet search for the product name or the company you wish to trace.  The majority of our members can do this for you.

Some further sources of information are contained within our "Links"  to Industry pages.

Search Engines can also help.  The PDA office frequently uses  www.google.co.uk  and www.bing.com both of which can provide answers but care needs to be taken over how your query is worded.

Note: When searching for pump names it is worth remembering that the various trade associations, representing pump manufacturers, contain listings of pumps.  Telephoning trade associations can be expensive and prone to misunderstanding, you are generally advised to request information by fax or email.  Trade directories can be useful, they frequently contain a long listing of the pump makers who have subscribed to their service.

The PDA Office has a number of reference files which can be consulted.  The PDA office is only operated part time so you are advised to send your query by  Email.  The office will respond as soon as possible.
